Claim Your Superpower

Superpowers.

Have you ever wondered what your superpower is? Not necessarily leaping tall buildings in a single bound, but I would be very impressed if you did. I mean skills or abilities that come easily to you and allow you to do certain tasks more easily than others.

We all have some “super skill set.” Maybe you are the one who can talk your kids or spouse into a new adventure? Or you are the one who is a natural coach and cheerleader, building people up? Or you are the one who always can fix those mechanical problems that seem obvious to you but not to others?

I have claimed two superpowers for myself, vision and collaboration. My creativity springs into motion when I start planning a new project. I can usually “see” an image in my mind’s eye of what a project will look like upon completion. It doesn’t matter if it’s a page layout, a furniture arrangement, or a finished photograph. I can visualize all the pieces and how they fit together in the composition.

How does collaboration fit in? When I work with partners who share in the vision for a project, success grows exponentially. The vision does not even have to be mine. Over the years, I have worked with both large and small teams to create images for books, videos, and posters. My role has been different in all of these projects, but the give and take with others was constant. We worked together to create a finished project that was greater than the sum of our parts.

I’m sure you have experienced this in your personal and professional life. We have been stuck into teams since we were in elementary school. Some groups worked better than others. But when we worked well together toward a shared goal, the results were obvious.

Portraits are collaborative works.

At the minimum, there are two parties working in conjunction (the photographer and the subject). More often there is a team of people behind the single finished image you see. The team often includes stylists, hair and makeup artists, set designers, producers, models, art directors, and assistants. Everyone on that set is just as critical as the photographer. All roles are important.

So how does this relate to your portrait? Share you vision with me. Together we will collaborate. I will help you design, execute, and finish your portrait.

Let my superpowers align with yours. Together we can create. And it will be beautiful.
